Veterans Affairs Dept. Honors Those Who Make The Sacrifice With New Veterans ID Card

As most veterans would agree, this one has been a long time coming. Today, the Trump administration is honoring the nation’s servicemen and servicewomen with a brand new method for getting an ID card that offers proof of service.

According to the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, in the past, there were very few vet ID cards issued by the government. So those service members have had to tote around the standard DD214 form, but it’s bulky in size, and it does not provide photo identification.

The Veterans Identification Act of 2015 ordered the VA to issue identification cards to veterans, and now, the new application process is finally here. It’s a more efficient way to offer proof of military service, and it will also allow participating retail stores to recognize the card and give promotional discounts and other services offered to veterans when they choose. The card will also be recognized by government agencies and restaurants. In addition, the card is a more convenient way to offer proof of military service, and it’s portable compared to the oversized DD214 form.

For vets to take advantage of the new application process they can head to the proper website to apply for the new ID card here.

There is no expected cost for this card, and vets can expect to receive their ID within 60 days.

In other interesting news, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced on Wednesday that the White House VA Hotline, first launched in June, is now operating with a full staff of live agents ready to serve veterans 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
